The first Hitchcock film I ever saw. Considering the complexity of his post and pre-Birds work, my parents made the right call by introducing me to this deceptively simple little flick which starts off as a light, kooky little romantic comedy that devolves into an apocalyptic nightmare. It's one of his most accessible because of the easy-to-follow plotline.
Ignore the rough edges and the special effects are mighty impressive and very ahead-of-their-time. The omission of a soundtrack is also a deeply unnerving choice. There are still those talky scenes that Hitch loved and the film could easily be 20-30 minutes shorter. The first bird attack doesn't happen until at least 20 or so minutes in, which made me chuckle because Birdemic: Shock and Terror famously doesn't feature any bird attacks for about half it's runtime, yet I concede that the Master of Suspense himself takes his sweet ass time getting to the airborne terror.
