Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)

I’m surprised I didn’t like this more. It’s lovely to look at and contains some rousing fight sequences, yet the characters left me cold.

The message of peace, harmony, and above all, trust, is presented well. In fact, the most refreshing aspect is the absence of a big lie onto which the plot hinges, which is a good 60% of Disney’s output.

Our main character only lies a little, so…progress?

Still, it’s sweet and funny, if unmemorable. The funniest bit for me was when the baby was babbling nonsense and I flashed back to the season 1 episode of South Park with clone Stan: “Ba-chomp ba chewy chomp.”
