A savage and intense thriller made with considerable skill and intelligence. A flawless cast led by Mimsy Farmer takes us into the wilderness where a group of deeply conflicted hunters consider doing the unthinkable.
It’s indeed rare to encounter a film that so economically delineates between each character and makes them all unique in small, specific ways. Equally impressive is the use, or lack thereof, of a musical score. There’s music in the opening and closing credits and none as far as I can tell throughout the runtime, making it feel all the more realistic.
One of the more recent films inspired by this one is probably Coralie Fargeat’s Revenge (2017).
The most amusing line does come from one of the worst of the group: “Fuck off with your coffee!”
