Daughters of Darkness (1971)

Be sure to add Daughters of Darkness to the cinematic “Worst Honeymoon Ever” list.

Told through the jagged prism of a vampire tale, the film examines female and especially male dominance over the opposite sex and possession, which can soon mutate into obsession.

Atmospheric and moodily shot and edited, the film smartly has its cake and eats it too by giving the audience plenty of naked flesh to ogle yet staves off violent scenes by keeping the validation of a vampire’s presence secret for a majority of the runtime. Finally, for all those looking for sudden flashes of violence, the final denouement is quite sudden and shocking, while an epilogue is suitably eerie.
