Bloodlust : Subspecies III (1994)

"The violinist is a disgrace."

After the high watermark of Bloodstone, it's natural that, despite being shot back-to-back, Subspecies III feels just a bit tired. Radu isn't given nearly as much screen time and the energy ebbs and flows. Still, it's a worthy sequel that doesn't treat its human characters like idiots (save perhaps for the bumbling Lt. Marin) and Radu's attempts to mentor and seduce his would-be fledgling Michelle are compelling.A brief subplot involving an ex-CIA badass who turns out to be ill-prepared for a vampiric battle feels like an intentional jab at the rah-rah, shoot 'em up action movies America had been pumping out since the mid-80's. The final scene is appropriately nasty and begs the question: Can Radu ever truly be stopped?
